weekend recap

so this weekend we didn't get up to much. saturday and sunday were uneventful. i just went for a haircut and then sunday we saw forgettting sarah marshall.
friday was a top chef holiday celebration with missy! hb & i went with her to flip - which is a burger joint that richard blais has opened here in atlanta (he was on the chicago season of top chef)

here we are at the start of the night. the three amigos -

apparently we were seated at a booth reserved for 6 or more and because we were three, everyone thought we were VIP. richard even came up to us, and asked us how we got such a great table - i jokingly told him that i told the hostess "don't you know who i am?", and he got a little nervous. here we are with him. i'm gonna have to be his friend on facebook now so that i can send this picture to him.

so, my review of the food. missy had the butcher cut, so i'm not sure how that tasted because it had bleu cheese, and because i dislike that, i didn't try it. i did try the sweet potato tots. i normally dislike sweet potatoes as well, but this wasn't bad. it was pretty salty, so i tasted salt more than sweet potato, and that's probably what i liked!!

hb & missy started off with a krispy kreme milkshake and a nutella & burnt marshmallow milkshake. i had a coke because i'm not a big milkshake fan, but i had to taste both! the krispy kreme tasted just like a donut! so good!!!! the nutella one was okay, and the marshmallows tasted like they do when you burn them over a campfire. not that i know much about campfires!

onto my favorite part of the evening - my meal! i opted to go for the po boyger which is a shrimp patty with old bay, mayo, lettuce and tomato - a play on the shrimp poboy. while it's not
as good as a poboy from back home, this was indeed a tasty meal! the vodka battered onion rings were out of this world. i liked them so much i shared with hb, but pretty soon it became apparent that we would need another order!

we all decided to finish the evening at craftbar. tom collichio (top chef judge) opened up craft
atlanta recently, and so there are two levels - craft up top, which is for fine dining, and craft bar which has the bar (duh!) and also, a smaller more affordable menu than upstairs. we hit up craftbar for dessert, and that was tasty indeed. missy and i got the 'smores. they were AMAZING!! the chocolate used is dark and the graham crackers are made at the restaurant.
hb had the pear upside down cake which was very moist! both were so tasty. the only things that were issues were the cappucinos - they were lukewarm, and arrived late. (tom should look into a different coffee too - i prefer illy or blue mountain. these are both so smooth and not bitter like the one we had.) also, the valet. we waited for at least 15 minutes just waiting for the car to arrive. needless to say, we had a great time with missy, and hope to have more of these tasting excursions in 2009.
